so i'm not quite sure how to be a boss...
right now i'm still nearly the same age as those reporting to me, and it's weird.
how do you draw the line between buddy and boss? i want to be "nice", "cool", "fun", "accommodating", and so on... but at the same time i want the respect due to someone in authority... at least i think i do. but i don't really feel like an authority on anything.
maybe this comes with age? maybe everyone struggles with the whole friend/boss thing until you get old enough where they stop seeing you as a friend, and more as that... "old person".
i guess for now i'll be satisfied with friend... and helper... and all around nice person. i don't think i was built to crack down on people. at least i haven't been able to yet.
enough of my thoughts. just got back from a nice weekend. my company took its employees to Wintergreen Ski Resort in southern Virginia (the picture, however, is from Oregon... not VA!!). we ate some good food, relaxed in the outdoor hot tubs, and stayed up late talking. it was a nice time. i feel pretty fortunate to be at a company that doesn't think that having alcohol at a Christmas party means a good time.
and yet, busy season approaches. however, in the spirit of positive thoughts, we're trying to think of it this year as "Prime Time" instead of busy season.
here's to all of you getting ready to hit "Prime Time". May the force be with you.

Hi I don't have any idea what i'm writing but be a good boss!!!!!!!!!
I didn't realize that I had raised a theory X daughter - "crack down"... "authority".... hmmm?
I believe the gen Y'ers respond more to love and cuddling -positive reinforcement and the like. You know, Friday afternoon golf outings and such. These things will lead them into 12-14 hour days, and just watch that productivity go up - come on Steph!! LD
