Our anniversary was June 4th. Since I couldn't think of anything to get Nate for a gift, I decided to make him a meal with some of his favorite foods.
First on the list was stroganoff. Well, finding sirloin was nigh impossible (at least for me) so instead I bought chicken breasts. Then I needed sour cream... hmmm... so I bought a container that had the words "creme" on it. I also didn't have any beef consumme, but I did have beef bouillion.
So!!! I fried up the mushrooms, garlic, and onions as normal, then added in the chicken. After it was browned (and salted a little bit) I added the two cups of beef broth and let it simmer, covered for 45 minutes. I then opened up the jar of "creme" and added it. Well, it was creamy but it definitely wasn't sour.
I made the rice and we sat down to eat. It was actually pretty good. I was amazed!!!
I also made broccoli in a creamy, cheesy sauce and then for dinner we had vanilla icecream with raspberries. Drink was a bottle of Gewurtstraminer (sweet, white German wine) given to us by Tom and Kevin when they visited.
So there you have it, the makings of a romantic anniversary night.
My husband brought me home three roses. This in itself was a miracle as he hates roses (thinks they are overused, or cheesy, or something). This was the first time he ever bought them for me (and even long stemmed). He also bought me a cactus. What a sweetie : )
After dinner, we lugged around boxes and unpacked. Not so romantic, but I guess we're not newlyweds anymore!!!
