Updates

I have been asked about the winner, or loser, (as you may decide to phrase) of the "Who Ruined Steph's Birthday Surprise" poll. The final statistics are, as follows:

Total Votes = 27
Nate Ruined the Surprise = 21 (78%)
Steph Ruined the Surprise = 6 (22%)

I, of course, am not gloating.

Pictured above is my glorious new bike. It is an REI brand bike, called the Novara Forza. I haven't ridden on it yet, but come spring I'm sure it will get a lot of use! I do get tired of walking to class.

My birthday keg. Given by a loving friend. Also pictured, my first stocking, sewn by (I think) one of my Grandmas or my Mom. Okay, I don't really know who made it, but it was hand-stitched (I think).

Our Yucca plant has turned out to be very handy. It holds not-so-heavy ornaments quite well. We decided against getting a big Christmas tree this year, as we're leaving for Brazil on the 26th. We thought three weeks without loving care might turn a large tree into a fire hazard. SO, the Yucca and a mini-tree had to suffice.

Momma sent me "Nathan" and "Stephanie" Christmas ornaments for my Birthday. I thought they were so cute. What will Hallmark think of next?

Note of Advice: if any of you out there in my LARGE reader base ever have children living abroad, please read up first on the Customs rules of the country in which your children have chosen to move to. Case in point. Today I spent three hours (2 in transit) going to, and acquiring, my birthday present at the German customs office. It was located in the middle of nowhere, in what appears to be as close to a "ghetto" as Germany gets. [Okay, I'm stretching the truth. It was more like a giant shipping yard.] The form I had to fill out might as well have been in, well, a foreign language. I had to ask for help, and I pretended to understand what the lady said while filling out what I HOPED were the right answers!! Eventually, after getting yelled at for having vitamins in the package (VERBOTEN!), they let me go. I only had to pay 10.48 euros for my trouble. 19% VAT on all amounts imported over 22 euros!!! On a happier note, look at the cool stuff I got from my parents and sisters and brothers!

My gift from my Ramquist parents and brother. Yes, Life Is Good!

By the way, steph, the stocking was given to you by Grandma Wagenbach. I don't know how much of it she made but I do know that you stitched your name on it. Love, Mom
