Health Update 3
My memory has gone down the tubes, and I'm too shot to actually re-read my last post, so hopefully I'm not being incredibly repetitive.
At some point on Friday night my fever broke. Nate and I were amazed when we took the temperature, as it was actually below 98.6. We went to bed rejoicing.
Of course then the big question was what would happen on Saturday. We took my temp in the morning, and it was still below 98.6... And it stayed that way for the entire day. Hooray!!!! When the midwife stopped by she cautioned that I stay in bed for the rest of the day. Something about just getting over a fever and needing to get back some energy. So I complied, mostly : )
Saturday night was what I would consider blissful. Elena slept for three long, consecutive shifts. 2.5 hours, 3 hours, 3 hours, and perhaps another 2.5 after that. Nate and I both got somewhere around 7 or more hours of sleep, and were all smiles in the morning. Smiles continued when Sunday morning brought another good thermometer reading.
But, as things seem to be never "quite" right with me, the afternoon brought about strange pains that made me unable to do much but sit. We tried a lot of things to make the pain go away, including nursing, cold compresses, etc., but eventually I just took two Tylenol. I'm not sure what actually worked in the end, but right now I am feeling mostly okay. Just a bit weak.
Elena
You may be wondering, how is that little daughter of yours? Amazingly, she is still healthy as a horse. The midwife weighed her on Saturday and she has gone from 3600 grams to 3720 grams. That is about a quarter of a pound weight gain. You might recall that her original weight was 3620 grams. I was really happy to hear that, as I was afraid that my fever and sickness might affect the quality of my milk. I guess it hasn't, thankfully.
I do also have a fun story. I have finally started changing diapers, when I am feeling good. In the wee hours of the morning I decided to change Elena's diaper. I took it off and saw that she had done absolutely nothing (shocking!). As I stood there contemplating whether to put on a new diaper or not, she grunted and sprayed me with some of that delicious newborn excrement. I laughed hysterically, not noticing that she was also peeing all over her onesie and the changing table. So much for her not being a boy, saving me from being peed all over. Girls can still shoot and fire!!!! And oh, what ammo!
