In case some of you hadn't heard the story, I thought I would describe how Nate and I came to name our daughter.
We had a list of names that we liked, about 3 or 4 per gender. But we really couldn't decide/agree on any specific name. It was hard, not knowing if it was a boy or a girl. One night, about a week or two before my delivery, I had a dream. Or something like that. I woke up from sleep and had a name in my head. Elena. I couldn't remember anything else about the dream... but I could remember the name.
I decided to try and remember it, so every time I woke up after that (many times, as I was using the toilet about every hour and a half!) the name would pop back into my head. So when I got up for good, I wrote it down on our names sheet.
The whole morning I was nervous, as I wanted to tell Nate about the name, but was really afraid that he wouldn't like it. Finally I broached the subject as we were sitting on the living room couch, just chatting. I told him about the "dream" and then the name. He smiled at me and said "I think I could like that".
Granted, we didn't cross the other names off the list, and we strongly considered naming her something else when she actually was born (she kind of "looked" like another one of the names), but in the end we decided to go with my dream name for our dream girl.
Elena = light and bright, beautiful (pronounced El-leh-nuh, like Eleanor or Ellen but with a different ending)
Dorothy = gift of God (also the name of my Grandmother on my mother's side)
