Baby on the brain

Since the only thing I think about these days is babies, I thought I would do this survey:

1. WAS YOUR FIRST PREGNANCY PLANNED?
Yes it was.

2. WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS?
Excitement, disbelief.

3. HOW OLD WERE YOU?
27.

4. HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT?
I keep track of my "cycles" in a spreadsheet (yes, my husband has infected me with Excel sickness), so when I was off by a few days I took a pregnancy test.

5. WHO DID YOU TELL FIRST?
The hubby, then Bettina.

6. DID YOU WANT TO FIND OUT THE SEX?
I did, but my husband didn't. He won that argument : )

7. DUE DATE?
December 3rd.

8. DID YOU HAVE MORNING SICKNESS?
For about two months, and it was all day sickness. Does anyone really ever have morning sickness only in the morning?

9. WHAT DID YOU CRAVE?
I ate crazy amounts of Ritz Crackers with Velveeta cheese (yes, I hear the collective yucks from my relatives!)

10. WHO/WHAT IRRITATED YOU THE MOST?
I hated looking like I had a beer gut. I was so happy when I overheard some kids on the street say, "hey look, that lady is pregnant!" Other than that, I just hated feeling so exhausted.

11. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CHILD'S SEX?
Girl.

12. DID YOU WISH YOU HAD THE OPPOSITE SEX OF WHAT YOU WERE GETTING?
Not at all.

13. HOW MANY POUNDS DID YOU GAIN THROUGHOUT THE PREGNANCY?
Between 35 and 40. Yikes!

14. DID YOU HAVE A BABY SHOWER?
Yes I did, over the webcam. It was great!

15. WAS IT A SURPRISE OR DID YOU KNOW?
I had to rope my mother and sister into preparing for it!!! Babies are expensive!

16. DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS DURING YOUR PREGNANCY?
I had some issues with low amniotic fluid, but after I started drinking two liters of liquid a day, it was a non-issue.

17. WHERE DID YOU GIVE BIRTH?
At a birthing house, about 2 miles from our house.

18. HOW MANY HOURS WERE YOU IN LABOR?
Technically, from about 3pm on the 10th until 3:33pm on the 11th. But the pain was bad from about midnight until when she came out (about 15 hours maybe?)!

19. WHO DROVE YOU TO THE HOSPITAL?
Nate.

20. WHO WATCHED YOU GIVE BIRTH?
Nate.
Katharina, Regina, and Isabella (midwives).

21. WAS IT NATURAL OR C-SECTION?
Natural.

22. DID YOU TAKE MEDICINE TO EASE THE PAIN?
Nope. That was the whole point of going to the birthing house. I didn't want the epidural option. I figured that if my Mom could do it naturally, I could too!

23. HOW MUCH DID YOUR CHILD WEIGH?
nearly 8 pounds.

24. WHEN WAS YOUR CHILD ACTUALLY BORN:
December 11th, 2008.

25. WHAT DID YOU NAME HIM/HER?
Elena Dorothy.

26. HOW OLD IS YOUR FIRST BORN TODAY?
Exactly 10 weeks.
