The post-est with the most-est

We leave for Italy tomorrow. Hurrah! So, to save you from a week of utter boredom, I decided to write one last blog post. Okay, okay, wipe your tears, pick yourself up off the floor... I know, I know, I am so thoughtful!!!

Elena had TWO playdates this week. One of these playdates was with my friend Mays and her daughter Laila. I met Mays in German class, quite a while ago. She left class when pregnancy got the best of her, but we've stayed in touch ever since. Mays is from Syria and truely has me wanting to visit her homeland. If only we had more TIME and more MONEY. I'm going to have to consider visiting a bordering country (Turkey) close enough for the moment.

Laila and Elena actually played relatively well together, until Elena tried to steal Mays' camera from Laila... and well, Laila is bigger (14 mos.) and stronger, and I think an eye poke convinced Elena to back off. At least for 15 seconds or something.

Earlier in the week we went to Rosenstein Park with our friends Laura and Max. This time I brought the camera and we took quite a few pictures of our frolicking children (more pictures in My Photo Gallery). Hmmm, okay so Max actually ran away (he's also 14 mos.) from Elena and left her crying on the grass BUT Laura brought him back and a few cookies kept him in Elena's playing range.

What is it with my daughter scaring other children? Or should I say, what's up with these scaredy cat kids?! To date Elena has made several other babies and a 3.5 year (yes YEAR) old cry and shrivel up with terror when she approached.

She's just so friendly, and she comes bulldozing up to the other kids, squawking the entire time. I find it cute. Apparently it's terrifying. What to do?! I find other mothers looking at me with disapproval, but how do you contain a tornado?!

And finally, here is Nate all dressed up for Halloween. The ladies in his office dress up every year, and Nate finally decided to join in. Nate's only "costume" is his Bavarian lederhosen. But look, look, he spiked his hair like a German teenager. I hardly recognize him.

And then there's me. I woke up this morning and thought I looked rather witch-like. I think the new haircut is going to require a shower every morning. Unless I'm looking to scare away people myself... maybe that's a good idea. Elena can work on scaring the children, and I'll scare away all the disapproving mothers. We'll be alone, but I think we'll be happier!

Don't worry, Steph...we have the same problem with Max. In Florida, he kept stealing (well, 'borrowing') beach/water toys from kids who were obvously much older and bigger than him. When we're with kids littler than him, though, he is usually too rough, even though it's not on purpose. I'm excited to see these two interact at Christmas! Sounds like they will be quite the pair! :D
