My Friend

Well this weekend I was reminded of why I married my husband.

For some reason Nate and I could not find friends this weekend. We had all these things we wanted to do, and no one but ourselves to do them with. Friday night we made pizza, drank wine, and watched a movie. We watched The Woodsman.

Apparently my earlier description of the movie was a little too graphic for my father. Let it suffice to say that the movie was interesting and disturbing at the same time. I woke up the next morning still thinking about it.

Nate had tax class all day on Saturday. I dropped him off and read all morning. In fact, I read from about 10:15 - 2:00. I finally finished The Historian, the book I was talking about in my previous post. Then I got bored. I tried to mow the grass, but couldn't get the mower to work. I cleaned the bathroom. I cleaned up the kitchen. Set up a little shelf in the kitchen. Got REALLY bored.

Nate came home! Yay! I marinated a couple of ribeyes in butter and soy sauce. We cooked ate, and drank another bottle of wine. Good red wine from the Shenandoah valley. We watched Princess Diaries 2. Okay, it got bad reviews, but it was cute. Even Nate thought so. At least that's what he said to me. And several times he laughed out loud.

As I mentioned before, we couldn't seem to find friends, so instead of going dancing, we held our own dance party in the living room. Those who know Nate may not be able to believe this, but he even did some solo break dancing on the living room floor. Competition quality.

Church was great. An army chaplain talked about his life. It was pretty cool listening to him. He spend a bit of time in Baghdad.

I decided that I wanted to cook. So I was looking through this big old cookbook Nate has. I happened upon a recipe for Strata. I had never heard of it before, but it seemed delicious. It is a little bit like a quiche, but more "casseroley". It took all afternoon to make it. You make it a step at a time. Letting things sit, and even pressing it down with weight for an hour. Strange. While it was setting, we went rock climbing. I actually enjoyed myself. We bouldered most of the time. I like watching Nate climb, and I even did a few problems myself. Then we came back, made more of the recipe, went outside and played frisbee, and did some gardening around the house. Finally the strata went into the oven. An hour later we were feasting on the most awesome egg casserole I've had in a while. Wow. It was worth the time and effort.

After all that blabbering, I'll get back to my initial point. I thought that the weekend might be dull seeing that we were friendless. But I actually had a great weekend doing nothing much with my husband. Maybe that's why he's my best friend. I like being with him.
