i'm tired. i guess it's about 3ish weeks left of busy season. my brain is tired. i was sitting with nate at the table last night and realized that my brain had been sucked dry of all interesting thoughts. all i could think to converse on was work. it seems like it happens every busy season. then it takes me a week or two afterwards to become "normal" again. well, normal is as normal does.
this week we had a wine importer from italy come and talk to us at work. he is one of our clients. he brought a bottle of champagne and a bottle of red wine. then he talked to us about the wine business. it was really interesting. i guess there are about 800,000 wineries in italy... there's somewhere below 10,000 registered wineries in US. i think the most interesting fact he told us was about how they are not allowed to irrigate or mess with the soil at all in italy. most countries allow irrigation, fertilizers, etc. for the wineries. but in italy it is against the law to "mess with the hand of God" as he put it. so if there is a drought one year, there will be very little wine from italy. i guess that irrigation actually makes the grape plants "lazy". without irrigation, a grape plant will develop roots that grow 80-90 feet below the surface, and with irrigation they'll spread out instead of grow down. the italians believe that as the roots grown downward through different layers of soil, you'll get a better quality wine.
okay, i'll quit about that. but it was pretty cool.
nothing is really going on here. nate is studying for the cpa. he takes his first test on april 3rd, and another two weeks later. i'm just waiting for april 18.
on april 21 i'm going to see kirk franklin and mary mary. yeah! so much to look forward to : )
