It's Over...

Sorry for the long delay in posting to my blog. Taxes got the best of me.

We had an interesting "end of busy season". Everything was well planned, organized, etc. and then one of my coworkers ended up in the hospital. Thankfully she is now doing okay, but it was pretty serious for a while. And, as we were short a person, we had to all step up and help with the work. Here I thought it was going to be a relaxing last few days before the 17th, and it turned out to be very hectic. BUT, it ended! Yay!

The day after tax season was a day off for the whole firm. I slept a good ten hours or so before getting up for a hectic day. The morning started in an interesting manner. I had just stepped out of the shower and was in my bathrobe when I heard a knock on the door. I was brushing my teeth, but decided to look out the window and see who it was. It was some man in road construction clothes. So I opened the door and he asked me to move my car so they could repave our road. I mumbled back with toothpaste foaming out my mouth and then quickly shut the door. Yuck! I then went to get my hair trimmed and then headed down the road to CarMax. CarMax is this big auto superstore where you can sell your car and get a fair deal (better than most trade-ins). I sat there reading for an hour while my car was inspected. After all of the inspecting, they offered us only $500 below what we purchased the car for a year and half ago. Not bad!

I then started driving around the town (had nothing better to do) and stumbled upon a Chinese Buffet! Oh yeah!!! Cheap Chinese in large quantities! So I ate several yummy plates while reading (how relaxing!!). Then I spent a long time in Target buying what I consider "necessities". For example, undershirts for my husband. Someone should really explain to me why white shirts can't stay white in the armpits for longer than about two weeks.

I went home and cleaned the house for the rest of the afternoon. It was so nice to clean stuff and make it smell and look pretty. The house was pretty grimy. My husband does many things well, but cleaning (dusting, sweeping, etc) is not his forte. I then cooked swedish meatballs, and we had a meal home-cooked by me for the first time in quite a while. I love it how our little family has developed things all on our own. We have changed the swedish meatball recipe to make it more healthy. For example, we grill the meatballs so that the fat drips off. No frying in butter for us :) Ha!

The next day I went to work and half heartedly struggled through my first eight hour day in a long time. We kept stopping to talk, as it is so hard to really work when you are still mentally exhausted.

Aunt Diane, Uncle Steve, Greg, and Mary came in for a visit that night. I'll write more about that later... but I have included a few pictures from our time in DC so far. We've had a lot of fun... it has been nice enjoying our last week and a half in DC with family. And oh so nice to finally enjoy some time off of work.
