R.I.P.

For those of you that didn't know, we sold our little 1995 Civic VX Hatchback to Jeff, Nate's brother, when we left for Germany. We just found out from Jeff that the Civic was stolen in a mall parking lot. Eventually the police found the poor thing completely gutted/stripped of EVERYTHING. In Jeff's words they took the, "hood, side panels, grill, engine parts, interior paneling, FLOOR RUGS!, they even took my MONKEY!!!!"

That car really got me through a lot. I learned to drive stick shift (after several attempts, stretching over a year or more) in the Green Bean. I also took the G.B. with me to the University of Illinois. My friends and I (who refer to the car as the "Green Rocket") had a great time driving around C-U in my little car. And further-more, my future-husband also owned a Civic Hatchback in college (mine was prettier), which endeared me to him at the time.

Nate was very attached to the car, as it became "his" car after we purchased our RAV-4 in D.C. In fact, I think Nate is more upset than anyone that the G.B. was stolen. He's still in mourning.

So now, let's all collectively have a moment of silence for the little Civic that "could".

To brighter things. Today was our last day of German class. We spent most of the day asking him questions, watching German cartoons, and playing "Taboo" German style. I baked my first batch of cookies in Germany to bring to class. They didn't taste anything like they usually do, but were still tasty. All two dozen are gone, and I think there were only nine people at class!

I will miss the class a lot. Many nice people, and the teacher was really good. Nate is going to try to get him as a teacher for the next semester. I am going to move to day-classes, so I'll be venturing out alone. Hopefully it will work out for the best, as I get REALLY bored from time to time being home alone all day.

And, your favorite part of the post I'm sure, the part where I describe our weekend. Nate and I took a day trip to Tuebingen on Saturday. It was really neat trip. I talked about it in the pictures (new ones are posted on the Gallery), so I won't describe it here.

But I did want to say a bit about this neat little place Nate and I ventured to on Sunday. My hair-cutter mentioned a place called the TeeHaus when I asked him for "fun things to do in Stuttgart". We found that it wasn't far so we walked up the big hills, through the trees, to a big gazebo with a beautiful overlook of the city. We ordered an "Eis Schokolade" which is basically a milk-shake and some sausages with potato salad. The food wasn't spectacular, but the view was the best I've seen yet of the city. Definitely a "must-see" for visitors! Come and visit, we'll take you there and you can look out over the valley into the sweet little town we call home.
