I decided to prepare my first recipe from the Smitten Kitchen blog I have in my Food Blog links.
Cooking up the leeks.
The tart, just before being put into the oven.
I had meant to take pictures of the finished product, and maybe a picture or two of me and Nate eating it. But we got so excited with our eating that I completely forgot. Indeed, I forgot again when I reheated it for breakfast. It wasn't until I slid the last crumb into my mouth that I remembered. So sorry, I guess I'll never become a good food blogger!
The preparation was easy, although I seem to be able to screw up the simplest of things. For example! I bought what I thought was a pie crust to use as my crust, but it ended up being 5 or 6 small crusts (maybe for making pigs in a blanket or something?!). I layered the crusts in the pan and then pinched them together. Doing this (I think) made the crust a little too thick. So although the tart was cooked, the crust was a little bit gooey. It hardened by the next day, so I actually enjoyed the tart more for breakfast.
Warning: if you don't like leeks or swiss chard, don't make this recipe. Well, maybe the name LEEK AND SWISS CHARD TART should have told you that, but for some reason I didn't think it could be true! For me, it was a little bit "chardy" but still tasty.
Enough talk about food. My Dad is coming to visit this weekend, if only for 24 hours. We're getting excited! I think we're going to relax, take hikes, check out a track meet, and then eat a late dinner on Saturday night. I'll keep you posted. : )
