My hubby and I have this deal. If I find something that I like (clothes, shoes) that is quite expensive, I have to wait at least a month until I purchase it. This month gives me time to look for a cheaper substitute for the thing that I like.
About a month ago Nate and I were walking around and I saw the most wonderful brown shoes in a store window. The store is called La Chaussure, on Eberhardstr. 31 for those Stuttgarters who read the blog. We went in and I tried them on, and fell in love. Oh how soft the leather, how comfy the heel. BUT, they were expensive. I won't say how much, but rest assured they cost a pretty penny. So we moved on.
A couple of weeks later I was still thinking about the shoes. So much so that I had a dream about them. How bizarre is that?!!! I've never dreamed about an item of... well... anything before. I told Nate about it and we laughed a bit. I was kind-of hoping that he would take the hint and get me the shoes for Mother's day.
Well, Mother's day came and went, and no shoes came to greet me. I nearly gave up on them. Then this weekend we were walking by the shoe store and I ran to the window AND. They were gone. My perfect, beautiful shoes were gone. Sniff. Nate smiled and told me that it was a SIGN, I just wasn't 'supposed' to have those shoes (I will mention that the store was closed for the night).
Grrrr, SIGN, Grrrrr.
Today I was out running errands for my husband and just happened to stroll by the shoe store again. This time the store was open. Elena was fussy from being in the stroller for so long, so I decided to let her wiggle her legs while I looked around. No harm in looking, I thought, since my perfect shoes were gone.
I walked in and strolled about, only to see a pair of almost the exact same shoes. Whoa!!! They were the same shoe, only in a beige instead of brown color. I squealed and asked to try them on. What a delight to have my foot in the shoes again! I happily paced around the store, thinking. Hmmmm... should I buy the shoes? Still expensive, not the right color... Hmmmm...
It so happened that one other woman was in the store at the same time as me. And she just so happened to be trying on... you guessed it... my dream shoes (in my size). The sales lady saw me looking at them and smiled. She sneaked over and slid the shoes out from under the other lady's pile of boxes and gave them to me. I about choked. I slid them on my feet. Hurrah, Hurray!
The sales lady quietly informed me that these were wonderful shoes for walking, and that they looked quite delightful on me. She then glanced over at the other woman and asked me if I wanted the shoes. Feeling a bit like a shoe thief, I nodded yes, and we sneaked past the unsuspecting other customer.
Hee Hee!
It's a SIGN hubby, a SIGN!!!!!
[The brand of shoe is gidigio, if you're wondering. I couldn't find the same shoes online, but I did find a few online shops that sell the brand to customers in the U.S.]

You are a hoot, Steph. I would definitely say it was meant to be. I hope they turn out to be exactly what you want. Love, Mom
Steph,
An old cattle buddy of mine once told me (when I was wanting to buy a cow that was too expensive) - "never fall in love with something that can't love you back" - I'd say you should memorize this statement!
