Chestnuts

Sometimes I'm reminded of my German ancestry, and often in the strangest ways. Like when I go to the bathroom and see the hygiene bags placed conveniently beside the toilet, or when I see a 5 kilo bag of potatoes. Or even a sign in a window, advertising a chestnut "bag" festival.

I grew up a Beutel, but think that maybe it would have been nicer to be a Tasche or even a Tuete.

What??? A Tasche or a Tuete? I can't even imagine how people would try to pronounce those here...Beutel is hard enough. I was registering for something recently, and the lady was trying (unsuccessfully) for the third time to pronounce my name right. When I said it for her, she shook her head and said, "Ain't no 'I' in there! It must be German!" :)

I like the 'BEUTELFEST' sign. I think instead of reunions, that's what we should have. BeutelFests. :D

A Tasche is a bag, but more like a purse. A Tuete is also a bag, but more like a plastic bag you get in the grocery store.

A Beutel. Well, I usually find them in the bathroom, to be used to dispose "feminine articles". The only redeeming word I can think of is a Geldbeutel (wallet).
