Yesterday was quite the day. The night before I was laying on the couch, just watching a TV show, when I turned my ankle a bit and it started to hurt. Odd, I thought, but nothing out of the usual (getting old you know). I went to bed, and when I woke up in the middle of the night and tried to walk, I couldn't. Ohhhh, the pain. When I woke up the next morning the pain was almost unbearable. I had to slide around on the floor on my rear end in order to get anywhere, and even that hurt. I'm sure I must have made quite a site trying to struggle into the shower. Lets just say that attempting to shower while sitting on the floor of ones shower should be avoided. I looked like a grease pit despite having (tried) to clean my hair.
Nate had to stay home from work in order to care for Elena, although a friend of ours did come over for a few hours to help out. We called the doctor, and he advised icing the ankle. So... I did... for about three hours or so until he made a house visit to check out my poor decrepit self. By this point the ice had taken down the swelling and I was feeling pretty good. The doc felt around and said that I should just take it easy... although he did advise against icing myself to the point of frost bite. He nearly choked when I told him that I'd been icing for three hours. Apparently all one needs to do is ice for a half hour, two to three times a day.
Oops.
By night time the ankle was feeling good enough to limp around, and this morning I was able to walk just fine. But really, how odd! Who twists their ankle while lying on a couch? Who?
Me, of course.
Thanks to everyone who sent us a Christmas card. The pics are up on our fridge. Elena loves to look at them!
