She's Two (Months that is)

I realize that I'm eight days late in posting, but better late than never, I suppose?

My baby girl Anni turned two months on March 10th. The first month of her life was characterized by sleep. I was in awe of the sheer amount of time she spent sleeping. She was so unlike her older sister in this, that I had to just rejoice and smile, and thank God that I finally had my 'easy' baby.

Month two rolled around and Annika woke up from her slumber. She started acting more and more like her older sister, in that she wanted to be rocked... and rocked... and rocked... to sleep, and then, just as you would lay her down, she would start howling and the process would start again. Between that and her night-time stomach aches, I thought that maybe I deemed Annika the 'easy' baby a bit too soon.

Fast forward to a phone conversation I had with my dear friend Jessica R. She let me borrow a 'get that baby to sleep' book that I devoured with nearly as much intensity as I devour ice cream (especially chocolate cookies and cream). I started putting the principles into place, and within days I was seeing results. My arms, no longer tired from constant rocking, were happy once again to cuddle with my precious infant. And lo and behold, Anni started sleeping better and longer. Even finally pushing past her three hours at a time stretches at night. Four hours of sleep in a row never felt so good! And let me tell you how good seven hours felt. Ohhhhh, the luxury!

The best thing that month two brought about was that Elena really started developing more into a big sister. She started being excited to go and get Annika up in the morning. Giving Annika kisses and trying to make her smile are also pretty high up on the list... right after blowing bubbles, eating chocolate, riding on the tractor with Daddy, watching Mickey, and so on! Well, maybe when Annika starts doing more than cooing and pooping she'll be more exciting to a 2.5 year old. Time will tell!
