Growing Up

Hold onto your seats, I'm about to wax philosophical.... no, not really... just kidding... : )

I was contemplating today about how it has taken 23 years for me to break free from my mother's apron. Today I called and made an appointment to get my oil changed. I'm about 2,000 miles over the required change limit, so I finally buckled down and called a Honda dealership. You are now looking at the proud owner of an 8am, 19 point inspection, oil change appointment.

I was so pleased at myself for making my own appointment to get my oil changed. After the sense of pride wore off I realized how ridiculous that actually was. Even when I left college in May my mother was still making my dentist, doctor, oil change, any sort of appointments for me. I'm really not sure why. Perhaps it was laziness, a little bit of fear of talking to strangers on the phone, maybe the fact that my mother asks a million questions and usually figures stuff out better than me. But I think laziness sums it up pretty well.

In the past month I have made an appointment for, and have gone to the dentist. (See previous post, I had 3 terrible cavities). I also made an eye doctor appointment, which led to me having maculopothy (sp?) and another appointment with a retina specialist on Dec. 21st. Sigh. And finally today the oil change appointment for Dec. 13th.

It really wasn't too bad. Receptionists aren't all that scary. They ask questions, I answer them to the best of my ability, and we hang up.

I think being on my own is quite liberating, and doing things for myself is quite freeing. However, when I go home for Christmas I'd still like a little bit of spoiling from my Momma, no appointments necessary for that!!! : )

Stephie, so glad you're finally growing up, dear! I'm so proud of you! ;) Speaking of oil changes, my dad just reminded me that the old Buick is almost past the date. If you would want to call up SpeedyLube for me.......
