New Fad

I am back from Chicago! After working two days of 12+ hours, and another long day due to my small group, I finally can relax. For all of you who have never seen the Marshall Fields display in Chicago, you should definitely go. It's Snow White this year. Each window depicts a different part of the story. They have elaborate dolls and settings; I think each window probably costs thousands of dollars. And right beside the Marshall Fields is a German Christmas market!!! I had my first gluhwein (hot, spiced wine) there, in a pretty decorative mug. It almost felt like being in Germany.

But, my main revelation in Chicago came after eating with Nate's parents. Nate's dad currently eats vegetarian/vegan pretty regularly. I think on occasion he will eat a nice steak, but not usually. He apparently was having health problems (aches, pains)... he stopped eating meat, and feels much better. He also lost some weight. Anyhow, he was eating this pasta dish with only veggies and it looked quite good. So I came to the conclusion that I should try eating vegetarian for a few meals out of every week. I don't think I could ever be vegan, as I like milk, cheese, icecream way too much.

I started last night. I made myself some pasta with Alfredo sauce, and threw in a pepper that I had cut up. I also ate a salad with the rest of my pepper in it. No more ranch dressing for me, I ate the salad with an olive oil vinaigrette. I was so proud of myself. I didn't feel stuffed and gross, like I do after some of my meat-heavy meals. BUT, then I went to my small group, where they proceeded to throw me a birthday party. Complete with cake and gift. Oh, was the cake ever good with its coconut frosting. Needless to say, my healthy dinner went down the tubes. Sigh.

I guess there is always another day.

No worries Jeff, as the top of my e-mail said "New Fad", I probably am not destined to be vegetarian, for life. I like meat too much! And I also plan to have only a few vegetarian days per week : )
