* I made my very first "real" German friend this week. I talk a lot with one of the trainers at the fitness studio, and this week she invited me out for coffee. Whoo hoo! Yes, she does speak good English. But she offered to help me with my German. So maybe the first 5-10 minutes we'll try speaking in German... or maybe the first 3 - 5 minutes... ; )
* No news club. I thought I would publicly note here that Susan, Sheila, and Katy are all in the running for the "Worst Bloggers Ever!" award that I am giving out. The prize has not yet been decided, but I'm trying to chose between a lump of coal and a cow pie. Any ideas from my faithful readers?
* This weekend marks the end of the Stuttgarter Wasen/Volksfest. We are going one last time, on Saturday, to celebrate a friend's birthday. I'm excited about having more chocolate covered strawberries and giant pretzels. And this time Nate is going to take me on one of those "mystery" rides -- you know, you sit on a little train and it takes you through a haunted house. Hee hee! I can't wait!
* We are heading on Sunday to our first Roller derby bout. Nate's coworker, Monica, plays on a roller derby team here in Stuttgart. Wondering what roller derby is? Basically, girls on roller skates skate around this rink bashing each other [literally, Monica has broken a rib during a game] in an attempt to keep a "runner" from getting around the circle before everyone else. At least I think that's what it is. I think it should be a fun time. I mean, what could be better than watching girls fight?

Good to hear from you!

Have you ever heard the song "Roller Derby Queen" by Jime Croce? It's an all time classic:
Gonna tell you a story that you won't believe
But I fell in love last Friday evenin'
With a girl I saw on a barroom T.V. screen
Well I was just gettin' ready to get my hat
When she caught my eye and I put it back
And I ordered myself a couple o' more shots and beers
The night that
I fell in love with a Roller Derby Queen
Round and round, oh round and round
The meanest hunk o' woman that anybody ever seen
Down in the arena
She was five foot six and two fifteen
A bleached-blonde mama with a streak of mean
She knew how to knuckle and she knew how to scuffle and fight
And the roller derby program said
That she was built like a 'frigerator with a head
Her fans call her "Tuffy" but all her buddies called her "Spike"
You know that
I fell in love with a Roller Derby Queen
Round and round, oh round and round
The meanest hunk o' woman that anybody ever seen
Down in the arena
Round and round, go round and round
Round and round, go round and round
Round and round
Well I could not help it but to fall in love
With this heavy-duty woman I been speakin' of
Things looked kind of bad until the day she skated into my life
Well she might be nasty, she might be fat
But I never met a person who would tell her that
She's my big blonde bomber, my heavy handed Hackensack mama
You know that
I fell in love with a Roller Derby Queen
Round and round, oh round and round
The meanest hunk o' woman that anybody ever seen
Down in the arena
Round and round, go round and round
Round and round, go round and round
Round and round
Enjoy!!!!
Sorry, the singer's name should be Jim Croce, not Jime Croce....
