Proud Wife Moments

I am so proud of my husband. He really wanted to buy a nice SLR camera, so we did a few months back. After acquiring said camera we started taking pictures and realized how difficult capturing a good picture with an SLR camera was. You have to know all of these photography things, terms, techniques. It was enough to set my head spinning.

But Nate wasn't daunted by this task. Jeff sent us some online photography school links, and Nate has been reading them and practicing with the camera ever since. I'll spare you the 50 pictures he took of cars rushing by our apartment. Anyhow... last night we got all of the lights up on our Christmas tree and Nate decided to photograph it. I thought that his picture was beautiful.

I got up from talking to my Mom on the webcam and also found that Nate had hung our stockings and photographed them.

Using an Advent Calendar to count down the days until Christmas definitely wasn't a tradition that my family practiced, but I became familiar with the practice after seeing it in Peter and Bettina's home. I believe that Advent Calendars are used in most German homes. Children love waking up in the morning and running down the stairs to see what their little treat for the day is.

After finding a cute (and cheap) calendar at the hardware store, I decided to try it out in our home this year. Yesterday when Nate came home, he was surprised with a little bag of sour gummy worms in the Number one (1 for December 1st) slot. I hung the calendar on our front door, so it's always the first thing he sees when he gets home from work. I figure that bribing him with sweets might just produce a happy husband who loves to wash dishes and clean the house. What do you think?!

(Can you tell that I took this picture with our old point-and-shoot camera? Definitely not as pretty!)

Your tree looks very nice! I recognized your stocking that Grandma W. embroidered for you. Also, I remember that Doris has an advent calendar too and it sounds like a fun thing to find some treat every day. Where does the treat go on the calendar?? Love, Mom

Well, I guess that your hubby will have to do the dishes since your lovely aunties aren't there to do them:-)

Note: If you click on the picture of the Advent calendar, you can better see each of the little pockets that has a number on it. I put the treat for each day in the correct date.
